Het eerste boek wat ik via Audible heb geluisterd is van Kevin Hart. I Can’t Make This Up is een onwijs grappig en leerzaam boek. Na 11 uur en 14 minuten later wist ik niet meer wat ik hierna zou gaan luisteren.
Ik lees graag boeken, maar soms kan dat niet. Bijvoorbeeld tijdens het fietsen – wel geprobeerd… Dit jaar ben ik daarom begonnen met een proefperiode Audible. Het is nog niet in Nederland verkrijgbaar, dus heb ik mij aangemeld voor audible.co.uk. Bij je proefperiode krijg je ook 1 credit, gelijk aan één boek, cadeau. Van mijn credit heb ik het boek van Kevin Hart gekocht: I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons. Het beste eerste boek wat ik had kunnen kopen.

But Kevin Hart, like Ernest Hemingway, J.K. Rowling, and Chocolate Droppa before him, was able to defy the odds and turn it around. In his literary debut, he takes the listener on a journey through what his life was, what it is today, and how he’s overcome each challenge to become the man he is today.
And that man happens to be the biggest comedian in the world, with tours that sell out football stadiums and films that have collectively grossed over $3.5 billion.
He achieved this not just through hard work, determination, and talent: It was through his unique way of looking at the world. Because just like a book has chapters, Hart sees life as a collection of chapters that each person gets to write for himself or herself.
“Not only do you get to choose how you interpret each chapter, but your interpretation writes the next chapter,” he says. “So why not choose the interpretation that serves your life the best?”

Luisteren of lezen
Alle audioboeken zijn “voorgelezen” boeken. En de persoon die het voorleest brengt een extra dimensie aan het boek. Het hangt dan ook af per persoon of je de stem van de voorlezer prettig vindt. In het geval van het boek van Kevin Hart leest hij het zelf voor. Als je wel eens een show van hem hebt gezien weet je hoe hij praat, snel. Maar hij doet het zó leuk! Soms weet je niet of hij nou het boek zit voor te lezen of gewoon een mini stand-up show aan het doen is.
Na 11 uur baal ik dat het boek niet langer duurt. Het is bijzonder om zoveel te weten te komen over zijn leven, hoe hij is gekomen waar hij nu staat en wat hij er allemaal voor heeft moeten doen – of niet. Ik heb het boek zelf niet gelezen, maar raadt het luisterboek zeker aan. Leuk om in de trein naar werk te luisteren, of als je boodschapjes aan het doen bent. Wel een kleine waarschuwing: ook het boek heeft veel grappige momenten. En mensen om je heen gaan je wel gek aankijken als je ineens hardop in lachen uitbarst!
Nadat ik even was bijgekomen van dit boek kwam ik een ander luisterboek tegen op Audible. The Last Family in England en dat is ook een aanrader!
